Grand Cayman, 24 May 2022- Island Heritage Insurance Company, Ltd. (“Island Heritage”) is pleased to report the

success of its annual CharityDrive event, with all three of the 2022 charities involved receiving CI $10,000 each.

The YMCA of the Cayman Islands, the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society took part in the annual event held on May 11th, 12th and 13th, where thousands of motorists drove pass the Island Heritage roundabout to show their support for their favorite charity. Island Heritage donated CI $1 for every car that drove by their roundabout up to CI $10,000 for each charity.

The CCMI will also receive an extra CI $5,000 based on social media support. CCMI’s Project Manager Robyn Larkin, said: “We are grateful to Island Heritage Insurance for recognizing the importance of coral reefs to the overall health and well-being of the Cayman Islands and selecting CCMI this year as a beneficiary of the CharityDrive 2022 at a time when coral reefs locally are under significant pressures. The donation from this event will help our team deliver on the Healthy Reefs for the Future campaign, which supports our annual coral monitoring programme, disease response, and community outreach and events.”

The YMCA was also happy to have participated in the annual event, “We are grateful to Island Heritage for the opportunity to participate in this unique community initiative! The funds raised will directly support the YMCA’s Financial Assistance programme, along with social responsibility initiatives such as Prevent & Protect and Ready to Respond. Two signature Y programmes aimed at empowering youth and adults with the knowledge, tools, and safe spaces to share and grow with a focus on child protection and safety,” said YMCA’s Director, Jenny Stuesser.

The Cayman Islands Cancer Society will use the funds to provide financial assistance for patients in need. According to the Cancer Society’s Operations Manager Paola Robinson, “The $10,000 is going to help us improve the quality of life of cancer patients and to continue with our mission – to increase awareness of cancer as a major health concern; to initiate positive change in all areas relating to cancer and to counsel cancer patients and their families.”

CharityDrive was established in 2012 as a creative and exciting way for the public to support their favorite charities. Since that time, Island Heritage has donated more than CI$300,000 to various local charities.
