Shortly after 8:30AM today, 31 July, officers responded to a report of an incident in the canal off Prospect Drive. A man had been aboard a wave runner when it exploded, injuring him. No fire was caused as a result of the explosion. Police, Fire Officers, and Emergency Services attended the scene and the man was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital via ambulance, treated for minor injuries, and subsequently discharged.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

Reported Indecent Assault in Taxi under Police Investigation

Police can confirm that a report was received in early July of an indecent assault late one evening in June of a woman passenger in a taxi by a man purporting to be a taxi driver.  The report nor the subsequent investigation indicates that the victim was drugged by the driver.  A man, age 37 of George Town, was arrested after the report was received and is currently on Police bail with numerous conditions, including not to operate a taxi or be out at night. The man is not a licensed taxi driver but was driving a licensed taxi at the time, and the Public Transport Board has been informed.

The matter is under police investigation.
