Bronx Lebanon hospital shooter’s Caribbean link

From NAN

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Mon. July 3, 2017: The Nigerian-born doctor who killed a Chinese-American doctor and injured 6 others at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in NYC Friday had a link to the Caribbean, according to his academic records.

Dr. Henry Bello, 45, who entered the hospital he left in 2015 on June 30th, shooting Dr. Tracy Sin Yee Tam, 32, fatally on the 17th floor and injuring 6 others before taking his own life, studied at the Ross University School of Medicine, (RUSM), in the Caribbean island of Dominica.

Born Henry Williams Obotetukudo, he graduated from Ross in 2010 and according to the New York Times.

RUSM is a private for-profit medical school that was founded in 1978 with its main campus is in Dominica and administrative bases in Iselin, New Jersey and Miramar, Florida in the United States. It is owned by Adtalem Global Education Inc., formerly DeVry Education Group, which purchased it in 2003.

Ross Med School in a Twitter posting said: “Ross is deeply concerned for and extends heartfelt prayers to all of those affected by the shooting at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital.”

Bello took the first job he could get on the road to working as a doctor after graduating Ross: a pharmacy technician with the city’s Health and Hospitals system.

Then, in 2014, he was hired by Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center as a “house physician.”

But hospital officials said he left in 2015, in lieu of being terminated after an accusation of workplace sexual harassment.

Dr. Bello sent an email to The New York Daily News two hours before he opened fire inside the hospital, citing the “bogus complaints” made against him by the hospital.

In the email, he said the hospital had terminated his progress toward a full physician’s license. “First I was told it was because I always kept to myself,” he wrote. “Then it was because of an altercation with a nurse.”

Meanwhile, one of the six he wounded is a Bronx-Lebanon patient; three are doctors; and two are medical students. A doctor, remains in critical condition with brain and knee injuries while a doctor was shot in the hand was undergoing extensive surgery and is expected to recover most of the hand’s function.

Another doctor was shot in the neck is expected to recover fully and yet another doctor was shot in the abdomen has been taken off a ventilator. The hospital patient had a minor injury and will be released soon.
