Micheal Conwill
Board President
The Stonewall Chorale

Michael Conwill has been active in the LGBTQ community for decades since moving to New York City in 1990.

Michael has spent seven years as the board president of the Stonewall Chorale, an LGBTQ chorus, and he has been a member since 2008. Michael has served as board president throughout key moments in Stonewall Chorale’s history, including its 40th anniversary in 2017 and Stonewall 50 festivities in 2019.

As part of Stonewall 50, the Stonewall Chorale co-commissioned and presented the New York premiere of “Quiet No More,” an eight-movement choral work about the Stonewall uprising.

Michael has also made a difference in the queer community beyond the Stonewall Chorale. Before the Internet became widespread, Michael was a volunteer with the Gay and Lesbian Switchboard of New York — an LGBTQ hotline — and was a participant in the VanGen vaccine trials, which was the first large-scale HIV vaccine trial to go to Phase Three.

As a performer, Michael has appeared in Meredith Monk’s “Songs of Ascension” at the Guggenheim, the Little Orchestra Society of New York’s  “Baabes in Toyland” at David Geffen Hall, and more. As an actor, Michael received an Off-Off-Broadway Review (OOBR) award for his performance in the drama “Southern Gentlemen and Other Myths.”

Michael has long served as a chorister at St. John’s in the Village and Congregation Rodeph Sholom in New York City.
