UPDATE: Fatal accident West Bay Road Tuesday night

A fatal motor vehicle accident occurred on the West Bay Road in the area of the Captain’s Bakery at about 11:50 pm on the 29th July 2014. A 21-year-old male motor cyclist and a Honda CRV driven by a 37- year-old male collided. The motor cyclist was travelling from the West Bay direction towards George Town unaccompanied, and the driver of the CRV was travelling from George Town towards West Bay accompanied by a 38-year-old male passenger who was seated in the left front passenger seat. The accident occurred when the driver of the CRV was turning right into Slate Drive from the West Bay Road and both vehicles collided.

Police and medics attended the scene. The 21-year-old was transported to the George Town Hospital by ambulance where he was pronounced dead at 12:23 am on 30th July 2014.

The driver of the CRV and his passenger did not receive any physical injuries. However, the driver of the CRV was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

A pedal cyclist may have also been involved in the accident; police are requesting the person to come forward. Anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed the accident are asked to contact the investigating officer PC Chong at 949-4222.

The West Bay Road was closed from the traffic lights by Delworth’s gas station down to the traffic lights by Lawrence Thompson Boulevard from just after midnight until around 8:30am (Wed). This was the reason for the long  traffic delays Wednesday morning.
