OPINION: Letter to the Editor

 Signs of our times

It is said that the more things change the likelihood is that they will always remain the same. We have to take notice that “Cuba turned the page on the Castro era on Monday with the ruling Communist Party electing President Miguel Diaz-Canel to replace Raul Castro as party chief although he said he would continue to consult his predecessor on strategic decisions.” But what could be next for that Caribbean nation? (https://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/reuters/article-9487683/Cubas-Communist-Party-appoints-President-Diaz-Canel-leader.html)

It is good to remember, while noting the experience of Vincentians and what is now going on in the U.S’s administration with their new Presidency and within Congress, that some sixty years ago, Nikita Khrushchev, that famed leader of the Soviet Union, who once said to western leaders “your grandchildren’s children will be living under Communism and we will not have to fire a shot.” Indeed, was he correct in that assessment?

Well what did he know? All the left had to do was to gain control of the schools where children could be indoctrinated, gain control of the media so the left could spoon feed them and spread their propaganda, then get rid of God and replace him with government, increase the Government debt to a big level so as to justify increase massive taxation and the redistribution of wealth.

How successful was that policy, as the Caribbean and the Americas travel that road? “Communist’ Land Acquisition in SVG” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udRc2nTSbl0

Cuba sure showed the way, others then followed in the Americas, with the now Harris/Biden/Pelosi Administration proving Nikita Khrushchev thoroughly correct in his assessment.

Before the Volcano eruption in St Vincent and the Grenadines, it was reported that Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves made a public statement saying that his government was running out of cash despite his government massive overwhelming debt burden.

Indeed he said that his “government may soon be unable to pay salaries, pensions, and social security contributions, if the current economic circumstances continue” https://www.iwnsvg.com/2021/04/07/govt-may-soon-be-unable-to-pay-salaries-pension-nis-pm/

Some in SVG find it most profoundly difficult to understand how a Government could possible live on a “hand to mouth basis” but is not such a situation most common to all such administration as his?

As the Harris/Biden/Pelosi Administration has taken up office in the USA, we are witnessing a tremendous expansion in that nation’s debt burden to levels not seen in its history, so perhaps the USA too, like many aspiring socialist economies including Cuba and Venezuela may yet find itself in the same boat as St Vincent and the Grenadines with western grandchildren living under communism. Just as Nikita Khrushchev had predicted.
