9th Annual Nursing Conference in Grand Cayman

Dr Lois GidelThe Cayman Islands 9th Annual Nursing Conference will take place at the Marriott Grand Cayman Beach Resort (West Bay Road, Grand Cayman) on Wednesday May 14th at 8:00am.

Bios:

Carol Biggs, RN, MBA-HA, DHSC

As the Vice President Dr. Carol Biggs is responsible for the strategic development of the comprehensive Cardiovascular Program at South Miami Hospital.

Carol is a native of Jamaica and migrated to the United States at the age of ten with her family. She attained her Nursing Degree at Rutgers University in New Jersey and her MBA-HA from the University Of Miami. She received her Doctor of Health Sciences (DHSc) degree from Nova Southeastern University. She also holds an academic position at Florida International University as an adjunct faculty member at the Stempel School of Public Health.

Carol has worked in several well known medical facilities such as Jackson Memorial Hospital and Cedars Medical Center. She has been at South Miami Hospital for 15 years and has risen through the ranks to now head up one of the most important services for the hospital and Baptist Health.

Carol is a consultant and lecturer for various organizations involving physician and community education about the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease, a member of the American College of cardiovascular Administrators, American College of Health Care Executives, Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association, and an Associate member of the American College of Cardiology.

Since its inception in Miami in 2005, Carol has served on the Miami Community Council, as honorary co-chair and has been an active member for Sister to Sister National Woman’s Heart Day, a national non-profit organization that provides free heart disease screenings and “heart-healthy” prevention information to women.

Carol has published her first article: Title of Abstract: Challenge of Timing for the Treatment of ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction. Critical Pathways in Cardiology Volume 6, Number 3, September 2007.

 

Louis T. Gidel, M.D., Ph.D., FCCP

Dr. Louis Gidel is a Pulmonary/Critical Care physician for Baptist Health South Florida and Medical Director of the eICU. Prior to becoming Medical Director he was in a large group practice in Pulmonary Medicine. He attended medical school, residency and fellowship training at the University of Miami.

His interests include ICU medicine and traditional areas of Pulmonary medicine including tuberculosis, asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer and pulmonary vascular diseases. Dr. Gidel also has a PhD in Physics and worked in computer modeling and information technology.
