SYNOPSIS

CAYMAN ISLANDS UNDER A TROPICAL STORM WARNING

Today:

Partly cloudy skies with a 30% chance of showers this morning becoming cloudy to overcast by late afternoon, with a 70% chance of widely scattered showers and thunder. Showers may become locally heavy at times from this evening. Flooding in low lying areas is expected from this evening. 2 to 4 inches of rainfall are expected for the Cayman Islands

Winds are expected to be from the east to northeast at 10 to 15 knots with higher gusts for Grand Cayman, and from the east to northeast 15 to 20 knots with higher gusts for the Sister Islands this morning. This will become northeast 15 to 20 knots with higher gusts for Grand Cayman and east to southeast 20 to 25 knots with higher gusts for Sister Islands by evening.

Seas are expected to be moderate to rough with wave heights of 3 to 5 feet this morning, increasing to 5 to 7 feet by this evening over Grand Cayman. For the Sister Islands seas are expected rough with wave heights of 4 to 6 feet this morning increasing to 6 to 8 feet by this evening. All craft should seek and remain in safe harbour from this afternoon until further notice.

Tonight:

Cloudy to overcast skies with a 80% chance of showers and thunder from early this evening, will become overcast with heavy showers and thunder from midnight. Showers may become extremely intense. Flooding of low lying areas will continue.

2 to 4 inches of rainfall are expected over Grand Cayman. 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are expected over the Sister Islands.

Winds over Grand Cayman are expected to be east to northeast 15 to 20 knots this evening increasing to 30 to 40 knots by midnight and veering to the southeast at 30 to 40 knots with higher gusts by early morning.

Sister Islands can expect winds east to southeast at 20 to 25 knots with higher gusts this evening, increasing and veering to the southeast at 25 to 30 knots, with higher gusts by early morning.

Seas for Grand Cayman are expected to be rough with wave heights of 5 to 7 feet this evening increasing to 10 to 15 feet or higher by midnight.

Seas for the Sister Islands are expected to be rough with heights of 6 to 8 feet increasing to 10 to 12 feet by midnight. All craft should remain in safe harbour until further notice.

2 to 4 inches of rainfall are expected over Grand Cayman. 1 to 2 inches of rainfall are expected over the Sister Islands.

Winds over Grand Cayman can expected southeast 30 to 40 knots with higher gusts in the morning, decreasing and veering to the south to southeast at 15 to 20 knots by evening. Sister Islands can expect southeast 25 to 30 knots with higher gusts in the morning decreasing 15 to 20 knots by evening.

Seas for Grand Cayman are expected to be rough, with wave heights of 10 to 12 feet or higher in the morning decreasing to 5 to 7 feet by evening. Seas for the Sister Islands are expected to be rough with wave heights of 9 to 12 feet in the morning decreasing to 5 to 7 feet in the evening.

All craft should remain in safe harbour until further notice.
