YMCA’s summer camps

Cayman Islands YMCA offers variety in their full summer of camps

Registration for the annual YMCA summer day camps opened in May to an anxious Cayman audience. The Y camps begin from Tuesday, 3 July until Friday, 24 August, making it the only camp on island running each week for the entire eight-week summer break. Camps are spread across three locations on Grand Cayman – CI Little League Field of Dreams (FOD), Camana Bay Sports Complex (CBSC) and the Cayman Islands Baptist Church Youth Centre (CIBC) in Savannah. The Y is also excited to offer camp in Cayman Brac again this summer!

Parents and kids can choose from five different camps that will be open to varying age groups, says Jenny Stuesser who oversees the day camp programme. Traditional Day Camp is for ages 5 to 12, Island Explorer Camp is available for ages 7 to 12, Y Junior Chef Camp is for aspiring chefs between the ages of 9 and 12, the Challenge Camp is open to ages 9 to 12 and this year they have added in an opportunity for the teens to have a Y camp experience too, with the Teen Challenge Camp for ages 13 to 17.

“The YMCA is pleased to offer another summer of fun to parents who are seeking a safe environment for their children to stay active, learn new things and make new friends. Our caring, well-trained staff members are dedicated to helping campers grow physically, mentally and spiritually, and we are all looking forward to another successful year,” said Jenny. “Kids will be a part of a camp experience grounded in a set of seven objectives that characterise all Y programmes – growing personally, learning and reinforcing positive values, improving personal and family relationships, appreciating diversity, becoming better leaders and supporters, developing specific skills and assets and having fun and enjoying the experience.”

Traditional Day Camp
Swimming, field games, arts & crafts, sports, and camp songs are just some of the activities that will make it a summer to remember! Each week campers will explore a different theme that’s woven into the traditional camp experience. From adventures in the Amazon to discovering the world of sports, there’s no shortage of fun this summer at Y Camp! Traditional Day Camp runs for the full eight weeks and is spread across all three camp locations.

Island Explorer Camp
Island Explorer Camp is full of adventure for kids. Campers will spend their time visiting exciting attractions island-wide, from local heritage sites and some of Cayman’s top visitor attractions to a fun afternoon at the movies. Each day will bring a new adventure!

Y Junior Chef Camp
Catering to young cooks, the Junior Chef Camp offers the perfect mix of ingredients. In addition to enjoying all the highlights of the traditional day camp programme, budding chefs will get hands-on experiences in the kitchen as they explore and create different cultural and traditional foods.

Challenge Camp and Teen Challenge Camp
These camps provide an opportunity for kids and teens to take on a whole new kind of physical challenge by putting their outdoor skills to the test. Activities include taking on the Y’s new ropes course, climbing, archery and nature hikes. Campers will learn the basics of climbing, as well as participate in fun outdoor challenges focused on teambuilding and leadership development.

On-site registration for the Y camps is open every weekday from 11am to 2pm at Field of Dreams until Friday, 29 June.
