Hawaiian canoe on worldwide journey stops next in Caribbean

HONOLULU (AP) – The Polynesian voyaging canoe that recently completed a 3,500-mile trek across the Atlantic Ocean is now on its way to the Caribbean.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports that the Hokulea left Brazil Friday for the next part of its around-the-world journey.

The crew is expecting an 18-day, 2,400-mile trip to the island of St. John, which is part of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Hokulea plans to continue up the U.S. East Coast for the first time in its 40-year history, stopping in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and New York.

The double-hulled canoe left Hawaii last year, and its crew members are sailing without modern navigation equipment. Along their three-year journey they are stopping to teach people in other countries about traditional navigation, Native Hawaiian culture and caring for the ocean.

Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas cleared to sail

By Ashley Carter, Digital Media Producer From Bay News 69

BAYONNE, N.J. — Anthem of the Seas, the Royal Caribbean cruise ship that was battered and damaged by an intense storm last week, was cleared to sail by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The ship left from Cape Liberty in New Jersey on Saturday, bound for the Bahamas, officials said.

Royal Caribbean took to Twitter to make the announcement.

#AnthemoftheSeas has sailed away from Cape Liberty. The ship passed all safety tests and inspections and is safe and seaworthy.

— RCLcorp (@RCLcorp) February 13, 2016
On Friday, Coast Guard inspectors examined the ship’s propulsion system, which had to be replaced after it was rendered inoperable during a storm.

The ship is once again scheduled to make a stop in Port Canaveral, before heading to the Bahamas.

Anthem of the Seas gets caught in winter storm

Anthem of the Seas originally left Cape Liberty, New Jersey on Feb. 6 for a seven-night cruise to the Bahamas.

The next day, the ship encountered a storm off the coast of the Carolinas. Passengers and crew members endured winds of up to 76 miles per hour and waves nearly 40 feet high.

Chairs were toppled, glass was shattered. Passengers took to social media to post pictures and document their experience.

Passenger Leanna Petrone tweeted this picture of the damage. (@LeannaPetrone via Twitter)

No one was seriously injured.

The ship returned to its homeport of Bayonne on Wednesday with 4,500 passengers and 1,600 crew members.

Royal Caribbean gave all passengers aboard the ship a refund and a 50 percent discount on their next cruise.

US Capital Partners launches next-generation digital investment platform

Leading private investment bank for the lower middle market has rolled out a new, investor-centric online platform.

SAN FRANCISCO – US Capital Partners Inc. announced today that it has developed a digital investment platform. The new platform, available at www.uscgs.com, is being offered through US Capital Partners’ registered broker dealer subsidiary, US Capital Global Securities, Inc.

Headquartered in San Francisco, US Capital Partners is a private investment bank that makes direct debt investments, participates in debt facilities, and has robust distribution for debt and equity private placements for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The firm’s creative and dynamic approach has helped it grow quickly into a leading investment bank in its sector.

Investment Platform

“We are delighted to have launched our digital investment platform,” said Jeffrey Sweeney, Chairman and CEO at US Capital Partners. “US Capital Partners originates or is presented with over $4 billion in potential funding opportunities each year. Through this new digital platform, investors will have access to a curated selection of private placement opportunities sourced from this large proprietary deal flow. The placements will be managed by our broker dealer, US Capital Global Securities, Inc.”

“This innovation in SMB financing is supported by the business-friendly Jobs Act directing the SEC to amend both Regulation A and Regulation D, which has led to new financial technology internet-based funding platforms. It has opened the doors for us to design and develop new proprietary technology-based tools for investors to more efficiently explore alternative investments and private placements,” said Charles Towle, Managing Partner at US Capital Partners and Division Head and licensed principal at US Capital Global Securities, Inc.

To learn more about US Capital Partners or its upcoming digital investment platform, email Jeffrey Sweeney, Chairman and CEO, at [email protected] or call (415) 889-1010.

Grand Cayman: Roadworks Red Bay area Feb 4 – 19
Drivers and pedestrians may have noticed that some road work projects are underway, and the National Roads Authority (NRA) advises that these will continue for some time.
Along the east-west arterial road in the Red Bay area, workers have begun preliminary work for the eventual installation of concrete barriers in the centre median. This stretch of road is between the Red Bay roundabout and the Dr. Tomlinson roundabout.
That project started Thursday 4 February, 2016, beginning with work on the east-bound lane. While work will take place from 7.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. weekdays (and possibly on weekends), little disruption of the traffic flow is expected. The project is expected to continue through 19 February.
Staff have already coned off the inside lane (the safety work-zone area) from traffic, with relevant roadway signs. Motorists are asked to use that road with caution, as the road enhancements proceed.
Following this project, there will be works to enhance Bobby Thompson Way.
Also underway is initial work to prepare for the conversion of the Esterley Tibbetts Highway into four-lanes.
