From RCIPS Mon, Jul 7, 2014 at 10:35 AM

(George Town, Cayman Islands)

At about 4:51 am this morning two on-duty police officers were making routine checks at the Traffic Management Offices located at 24 Agnes Way, George Town when they discovered a fire on the inside of the building. The officers attempted to put out the fire while the Fire Department was contacted and arrived shortly thereafter and extinguished the fire.

The building was not occupied at the time and the extent of the damage is unknown as the Fire Department arsonist investigators, Police Detectives and Scenes of Crime are currently processing the scene, and the incident is being treated as a suspected arson.

The police are appealing to the public who might have seen anything suspicious at the time to contact the Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Joseph Wright at 516-8169 or Detective Constable Owen Santo at 324-0684 or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477(TIPS).

Until the building is cleared by the investigators and assessed for its fitness for occupancy, the staff will be relocated. As a consequence, all enquiries from the public for traffic-related matters, including accident reports should visit the Walkers Road Criminal Records Offices located at Unit 7, 2nd floor, Windjammer Plaza or contact the office at 949-4924.
