Cayman Elections Office Begins Door to Door Verification

The Elections Office today (Friday, 28 June 2019) began door-to-door verification of signatures on the cruise port referendum petition, in the districts of North Side and East End.

Elections Office staff are identifiable by their Elections Office shirts and ID Cards. While verifying signatures, staff will also have change of detail forms for registered voters who have changed names or addresses but have yet to notify the Elections Office.

Verifiers are expected to begin going door-to-door in Bodden Town next Friday, 5 July and the Elections Office will keep the public informed as the process moves to other districts.

Officials remind the public that the deadline to register for the next publication of the Official Register of Electors is 8pm on Tuesday, 2 July. In addition the office will open tomorrow (Saturday, 29 June) between the hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Smith Road Centre for verification of signatures on the petition or for registration purposes.

Cayman: 1998 Honda Civic Reported Stolen Early Morning, 1 July

Police have received a report of a stolen white 1998 Honda Civic.  The Honda was last seen parked at Vic’s Bar on Seymour Drive in George Town last night, Sunday, 30 June, around 11:30AM.   Around 3:15AM the car was discovered missing.

Cayman Islands: ROAD WORK NOTICE 29TH & 30TH JUNE 2019 from 9am to 5pm

The National Roads Authority is advising all motorists to drive with caution and reduce speed in the vicinity of Cayman National Bank (CNB) Roundabout this weekend June 29th and 30th.

Road Striping will be in carried out to install Pedestrian Crossings on Huldah Avenue, Elgin Avenue, and Thomas Russell Way sections of the Roundabout. Works are expected to be conducted between the hours of 9am and 5pm daily.

NRA apologises for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please follow all signs and diversions and drive carefully to keep yourself and our staff safe.

Needs Assessment Unit: Grand Cayman Office Closures

The Needs Assessment Unit’s (NAU) Grand Cayman Office will be closed on Friday, 28 June 2019, to resolve a maintenance matter.

In addition, the office will be also close on Friday, 12 July 2019, for a staff function.

Cayman Islands: Road Closure Notice for Juicy Concert Event, Saturday, 29 June

In order to facilitate the Juicy concert event (organized by Pirates Week Administration) on Saturday, 29 June, Cardinal Avenue in central George Town will be closed between Albert Panton Street and Harbour Drive from 12:00PM on Saturday the 29th until 3:00AM the following morning, Sunday the 30th.

Motorists are advised of potential delays in the area.

Tropical Visions Exhibition Opens at the Cayman Islands National Gallery

The National Gallery’s latest exhibition ‘Tropical Visions – Landscape Paintings from the National Collection’ is now open to the public. The exhibition highlights works from the NGCI’s permanent collection and features twenty-five local artists. Admission is free and the exhibition will run until the end of September, along with the related education programme.

Cayman Islands: Grey Honda Civic Stolen from George Town

Just after 5:30AM this morning, 24 June, police were dispatched to a residence on Cornwood Drive where it was reported that a vehicle had been stolen from that location.

 The vehicle, a 1998 gray Honda Civic, registration number 123-501, was described as having filler on the top and a crack on the left side of the bumper, two black rearview mirrors and a broken front passenger side door handle. (A similar picture is shown above.)

 The vehicle was last seen yesterday evening, 23 June, around 7PM outside a residence on Cornwood Drive, George Town.

 Police are encouraging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of this vehicle to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

Cayman Islands: Smoking Cessation Classes: ‘I Can Quit’

The Public Health Department reminds smokers who wish to quit the habit that there are still some spaces left for the upcoming smoking cessation classes the department is offering. Classes start on 05 June 2019 from 5.15 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. every Wednesday for seven weeks in the Public Health Department. The Public is being reminded that the new location for the classes will be held at Smith Road Centre on the second floor.

The registration for students enrolling in, or transferring to, Government schools for the 2019/2020 school year will open on Monday, 1st April 2019 and will close on Friday, 28th June, 2019.  Registration for Government Reception is open for qualifying children aged 4 Years 0 months before 1st September 2019. That means a child born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015 is eligible for reception, and that he/she must have already turned 4 prior to 1st September, 2019.

Health Screenings

All students entering government or private schools in the Cayman Islands for the first time are required to have health screenings this summer. The screening includes a growth and development assessment, screening for vision and hearing, a dental assessment, the administration of necessary immunisations and obtaining a student’s personal medical history.
