“Grease” was a well-oiled production

Last week I wanted to see the Cayman Prep and High School’s latest stage production, Jan Jacobs and Warren Casey’s musical “Grease”. I managed to view it, but not until after two attempts because every ticket had been pre-sold the days I wanted.

It was well worth the wait. Together with my sister, Helen, we seated ourselves down on the somewhat uncomfortable for long periods of sitting – plastic seats – but that was the only moan. It was a wonderful and thoroughly entertaining evening.

It is a great credit to the dedication of the teachers and other staff who put together a production of this magnitude that would not have disgraced the stage at The Prospect Playhouse.

I knew most of the songs and the story but the children managed to make it a “fresh” experience. There is a lot of talent in the school and I hope the children still continue to be involved in dramatics even after they leave school.

You could tell the whole cast were enjoying themselves and I am not going to pick out any individual(s) for praise as that would not be fair to the rest of the cast, especially as there was double casting.

However, I do have to make mention of Kathryn Griffiths who not only directed the production but also assisted in the choreography. I counted over 50 cast members and Kathryn did indeed need help from two assistants, Melanie Hydes and Laura Knox  who also both assisted in the choreography, Musical Directors – Cheryl Ward and Mile Galvin, and Kerrie McMillan the stage manager (and for the programme).  I also have to applaud Mark Frazer for some fine set designs.

Thank you Cayman Pep and High School – your productions get better and better.

When is the next one?
