Cayman’s marvelous mature marathon man makes it three

-1Derek Haines, who is running to raise $1M for Cayman Hospice, finished the 26.2 mile Pamplona Marathon in Spain to complete three out of three marathons with three more to come.

Haines running with his daughter, Lizzie, completed the course last Saturday night in a time of 4.12.

It was a coldish day with a little rain and the race started promptly at 8pm with 1,300 runners competing.

Our marvelous mature marathon man and his lovely daughter celebrated the finish around 3am.

Derek and Lizzie were well supported with, of course, his wife Helen who supplied the photographs, and major sponsors Peter and Julia Kandiah. Along for the ride was Chris (trainer and accountant) with his wife Merja.

Congratulations to Derek as his campaign to build a new home for Cayman’s Hospice is keeping pace, in fact a little ahead, of his goal standing at almost $600,000.

Just recently both LIME and Digicel have partnered that will allow their customers to donate money through their cell phones to the Hospice campaign.

-2The two companies have set up a code number GIVE (4483) where their customers can text the word “Derek” to donate $5. Each text sent will cost $5. 100 percent of all donations will go to this cause.

Pamplona is where the famous bull-run takes place. Our bull is named Haines.

You can also make a separate donation there.
