Boosting cellular function can increase life span dramatically

By Lynn Allison From Newsmax

An article published in Medical Xpress last year shocked the medical community by stating that the limits of human existence may not be as limited as we believe.

According to researchers, a person’s risk of death actually slows and even plateaus once he or she reaches the age of 105. Longevity pioneers lucky enough to make it past the perilous 70s, 80s and 90s could potentially live well into their 110s.

“Our data tells us that there is no fixed limit to the human life span yet in sight,” says senior author Kenneth Wachter, a professor of demography and statistics at the University of California, Berkeley. “Very few of us are going to reach those kinds of ages, but the fact that mortality rates are not getting worse tells us that there may well be progress to be made improving survival rates past the ages of 80 and 90.”

Dr. Charles Brenner discovered a vitamin that can help us reach that plateau by boosting cellular function. He tells Newsmax that this super vitamin may indeed be one of the most valuable tools needed to ensure a long, healthy life.

The vitamin helps boost the levels of a crucial cellular coenzyme called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide or NAD. When NAD stores in our body decline, we begin to experience the classic signs of aging.

But now researchers have a way to keep those levels at their optimal level by taking a supplement called Niagen or TruNiagen, both forms of the vitamin B3 that restore NAD levels in the body,

Unfortunately, NAD levels decrease as we age. We lose up to 50% of our NAD levels between the ages of 40 and 60. Poor lifestyle choices like smoking, bad diet, and lack of sleep can accelerate that the decrease, says Brenner.

Jonny Bowden, Ph.D. tells Newsmax that NAD is “the hottest healthy aging story on our radar.”

“Aging starts at the cellular level.” says Bowden, a leading health expert, and author of Live Longer Cookbook, who takes TruNiagen daily. “We may notice our skin wrinkling, lack of energy, low libido, tired eyes but long before that stuff happens, our poor cells have gotten tired and run down. NAD is like the spark plug that drives the cells to produce ATP, giving you more energy for everyday function. Think of a car without spark plugs…it just can’t run. NAD is the coenzyme—the spark plug—that’s need for absolutely every one of our cells’ operations.”

Dr. Joseph Maroon, a famous Pittsburgh based neurosurgeon and author of “Square One: A Simple Guide to a Balanced Life” is another proponent of the supplement.

The 79-year-old has completed eight Ironman-length triathlons and continues to do surgery and see patients.

“Low NAD levels contribute to fatigue as well as the disease of aging,” Maroon tells Newsmax. “When mitochondrial function is damaged or slowed by aging, it leads to the common diseases of aging such as Alzheimer’s, wrinkling of our skin, weakening of the muscles and so forth.”

Maroon recommends taking 250-500 milligrams of TruNiagen or Niagen daily with or without food.

Maroon also suggests taking the following supplements to facilitate and enhance mitochondrial function:

  • Coenzyme Q 10 or ubiquinol
  • L-carnitine
  • D-ribose
  • Magnesium
  • Omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil
  • All the B vitamins
  • Alpha Lipoic acid
