Now open: Conversations with Popular Art

Conversations with Popular Art highlights the work of self-taught, or “Intuitive,” artists from the Cayman Islands, alongside other Caymanian artists who engage with popular art idioms and techniques. Featuring a wide range of media—from paintings and drawings to carvings, textiles, ceramics, and decorated objects—the exhibition explores how popular art expresses cultural identity, imagination, and community, while challenging the boundaries between art and craft.

Cayman Art Week: Art in the City + Exhibition Opening

As part of CAW Central / Gallery & Studio Tours, the National Museum was buzzing with visitors for the launch of Conversations with Popular Art. This new exhibition showcases Cayman’s self-taught “Intuitive” artists alongside creators working in traditional and popular art forms. Featuring paintings, carvings, quilts, and more, it’s a celebration of imagination, identity, and the rich blend of art and craft.

Cayman Colours, Museum Pride!

The National Museum team proudly celebrated 345 Day in style—decked out in red, white, and blue and beaming with island pride! It’s an honour to represent our heritage and show love for the Cayman Islands, the place we’re proud to call home.

Bringing History to Life with VR!

A big thank you to Cayman Enterprise City and Enterprise Cayman for their generous donation of two VIVE Virtual Reality (VR) headset systems to the National Museum! This exciting addition will elevate our interactive exhibitions and educational programmes. With Exhibition Coordinator Al Ebanks now on board, we’re thrilled to explore new, immersive ways to share Cayman’s rich history.

Voices of Valour Drew a Full House

Our Speaker Series spotlighted Voices of Valour: Cayman’s Seafaring Stories at the National Gallery, drawing a full house. The evening featured captivating stories from Cayman’s maritime past, shared by a panel of engaging speakers. Presented in collaboration with Celebrate Cayman, the Cabinet Office, and the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, the event celebrated the enduring legacy of our seafaring heritage. Click here to rewatch.
