CUC Scheduled Interruption in George Town Area – Sunday, June 1, 2025

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands – 30 May 2025 – Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) will carry out a scheduled interruption on Sunday, June 1, 2025, as part of ongoing work to transfer power lines underground in the George Town area. This is part of Phase 2 of the Central Business District Enhancement Project (CBDEP), a joint effort with the George Town Revitalisation Initiative (GTRI) to improve the safety, reliability, and appearance of the area’s power supply.
On Sunday, June 1, the planned outage will take an estimated duration of 9 hours, from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. A total of 92 customers are expected to be affected, based on system data. No customers with special medical needs or essential services accounts will be impacted.
The affected areas include:
* Albert Panton Street
* Elizabethan Square (East & West)
* First Caribbean Bank
* Fort Street (Piccadilly Car Park)
* RBC Plaza (D60)
* Royal Plaza
Advanced notice has been provided to all customers, and teams will be working diligently to minimise disruption and restore service as swiftly as possible once the transfer is complete.
Teams will be on-site early Sunday morning to safely carry out the work and restore power as quickly as possible. The transfer of overhead lines to underground systems helps reduce the risk of outages during storms and improves the look and safety of the George Town area.
The Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing, and Infrastructure (PLAHI) thanks the public and the affected customers for their understanding and cooperation as the GTRI and CUC work together to improve long-term infrastructure reliability and urban resilience.
