Cayman Tourism Minister celebrates World Sea Turtle Day

George Town, Cayman Islands (16 June, 2022) Tourism Minister, Hon. Kenneth Bryan celebrated World Sea Turtle Day by participating in a turtle release organised by the Cayman Turtle Centre: Island Wildlife Encounter (CTC).

Two endangered Green Sea Turtles were released at Governors Beach on Thursday 16th June 2022. The four-year-old turtles whose names are Thatchand Schooner are sponsored by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority.

For over 50 years, the Turtle Centre and its knowledgeable staff of educators and scientists, have raised and released more than 34,000 turtles in the waters around the Cayman Islands. “We continue here in the Cayman Islands, through the Turtle Centre to make sure the world is populated with this endangered species,” said Mr. Bryan.

Minister Bryan offered a vote of thanks to Acting CEO, Mr. Christopher Jackson, and all of the Turtle Centre crew members, for their diligence in conserving and development of the turtle population around our islands and throughout the region.

“As Minister for Tourism, I am grateful for all the staff at the Turtle Centre who work tirelessly to ensure that our visitors and children of future generations will have the opportunity to see and learn about these amazing animals,” he said.

The mission of the CTC is to provide a unique and transformational experience for guests with endangered sea turtles and other wildlife; promoting sustainability, conservation, education and research with an end result of replenishing wild sea turtle populations in the Caribbean.
