Quincy Brown stars at Fun in the Park concert

Songs, storytelling and poetry made up the Fun in the Park concert held at the Dart Park on South Church Street, George Town last Sunday afternoon (10).

Despite the sound system that refused to be ‘sound’ and was just plain silent, Quincy Brown did not let that hurdle stop him from thoroughly entertaining his audience.

He told jokes, he sang and even had a number of duets with the beautiful Fiona Pimentel who organised the event to raise funds for the Roman Catholic Missionaries of the Poor (MOP).

The Missionaries of the Poor (M.O.P.) is an international monastic order of Brothers dedicated to “Joyful Service with Christ on the Cross” to serve the poorest of the poor. The order was started in 1981 by Very Rev. Fr. Richard Ho Lung and has now grown to over 500 brothers around the world.

There is also “The Missionaries of the Poor Sisters” that was initiated as a “pious union” on 27th of March 2011 in Kingston, Jamaica, also under the inspiration and guidance of the Father Founder, Fr. Ho Lung.

Other performers included Maxwell Thomas, Toni-Ann Foster, and Peter Westin and Joan Wilson from the Cayman Writers Circle.

M/s Joan, as one of her three poetry pieces she had written herself, delighted and also saddened the audience with her piece on “The Goldfield”. Cayman’s once proud and famous ship that lies almost forgotten rotting under the sea. As she said, “A disgrace and how the Goldfield Foundation should be ashamed.”

It was a thoroughly entertaining afternoon held in the little amphitheatre and if you weren’t there you missed a treat – and it was FREE.

Of course you were encouraged to give generously to the MOP and if you want to give to this cause email Fiona at [email protected]
