Cayman Christmas at St. George’s

Nine Lessons and Carols was beautiful and sacred

My fourth visit to listen to carols was last Sunday (15) at St. George’s Anglican Church.

This was a complete contrast to the last three I told you about, but no less enjoyable.

It was their “Nine Lessons and Carols”, an Anglican tradition I grew up in back in Merry Ole England.

Whilst the others had been rousing and even ‘noisy’ this service was more quiet and let me say more spiritual.

There were the readings interspersed with music, mainly carols, with some I hadn’t heard before. There was a Liturgical Dance that was just beautiful. A number of items were performed by children.

I have to make particular mention of the cello playing by little Aria Marriott. This very young girl, masterfully playing an instrument that was much bigger than her, using her bow and even plucking the strings on “Ode to Joy” was flawless. It brought tears to my eyes.

Both choirs, the senior (who did the brunt of the work) and the junior sang beautifully.

We were all given electronic candles as we entered and, unfortunately, we had to give them back as we left.

For all those who weren’t there, you missed a real treat. Our Publisher, Joan Wilson, wanted to know when it would be repeated so she could come again and bring others. Sadly it was one performance only.

We even were treated to two duets from the two choir masters. Denver Bloomfield on organ and Fran McConvey on piano.

Blessings.
