Last Friday (June 29) crowds gathered at the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman ballroom to attend a smaller scale 2018 CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival.

Earlier in the year, Festival Director Tony Mark, had announced CayFilm was cancelled. Then this month he announced the show would go on in a very much watered down format.

Mark said, “I was devastated when we had to cancel CayFilm this year because I felt we were just gaining some momentum as we approached our fifth anniversary. Skipping a year would have been a step in the wrong direction, and I was disappointed that Cayman film enthusiasts would miss out on seeing some amazing movies. I am so grateful to our new partner PSI-Key Entertainment who basically came in and saved the day, and I can’t wait to see these films on the big screen and celebrate the talent of our local filmmakers.”

He only had to wait a couple of weeks to watch along with the other 300 attendees that made it a Full House.

Let me say EVERY film shown at the Festival were excellent but we all have a favorite, don’t we? Mine was Teri Quappe’s “Interloper”.

It was shot in both Scotland and Cayman. The story taken from the programme says:

“Elfie Morgan is a twenty-five year old woman seeking refuge from a horrendous attack.She arrives at a remote cabin with the hope that the solitude and nature will help her heal. While settling into her new surroundings she starts to notice that some things are not quite right. After an unsettling night she is sure that she is not alone. Searching for the truth she fears for her own sanity. When the interloper is is revealed she finds out that the truth does not always set you free.

The music was supplied by her parents – Chuck and Barrie.

It was a wonderful evening and I can’t wait for the full 2019 version – SOON COME!
