Caribbean Electorate Coalition to be launched soon

By BPMS Inc

(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – Voters across the Caribbean will soon have a representative body to address their needs, interests and rights under the constitution.

The decision to launch Caribbean Electorate Coalition (CEC) came about after a series of discussions among a group of concerned citizens from across the region about corruption, misappropriation of funds and poor leadership which have plagued Caribbean politics from time to time over the years. It was felt that something needed to be done to empower the electorate to do more than just vote every 5 years, to protect themselves from political leaders who lack integrity.

CEC empowers and enables the people to effect change and improvements within government at any time, as opposed to waiting 5 years to exercise the power of their vote during the elections process.

The aim of CEC are as follows:

– To engage in lobbying, advocacy, marches, demonstrations and other legitimate strategies where necessary to achieve optimum transparency, accountability and proper leadership within government at all times.

– To provide independent oversight to maintain integrity of the actions of elected parliamentary representatives.

– To educate the Electorate on the legislation, the constitution, the electoral process, economics and other relevant areas of governance and government.

– To provide the Electorate with an effective media platform to voice their concerns, complaints and suggestions to government officials.

– To inform the Electorate on note worthy issues within government in a timely manner.

– To establish sustainable partnerships with local government, media, press and other social partners.

– To provide government with a platform for more effective communication with the Electorate.

– To provide assistance to the government, social partners and the Electorate with the dissemination of information, research, surveys, polling and other important functions.

In each Caribbean state, CEC is comprised of Voters, Politicians, Concerned Citizens & Residents and the Media/Press.

It is time for Cariibbean people to do more than just complain amonst themselves and on social media about poor political leadership, and actually do something that can make a real difference. We need to realise that through unity and solidarity, the people have the power beyond the vote.
