Sails raised on 105m Oceanco Black Pearl’s sea trials

By Chris Jefferies From Boat International

The 105 metre Oceanco sailing yacht Black Pearl has been spotted with her sails aloft for the first time as her extensive sea trials continue. As the photo below shows, her black sails have been adorned with a silver logo that reflects her name.

Sold by Moran Yacht and Ship in 2012 and launched last September in the Netherlands, Black Pearl features an innovative wave-piercing bow with design studio Nuvolari Lenard penning both the interior and exterior styling.

With an LOA of 105 metres, she will officially join the ranks of the world’s largest superyachts when she is delivered later this year. As the drone video footage below shows, Black Pearl is a tri-deck sailing yacht. It is understood that she was built from a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure. Accommodation for 12 guests is split across six cabins and her 15 metre beam allows for a total interior volume of 2,700GT.

Auxiliary power comes from a pair of Caterpillar diesel engines for a top speed of 17.5 knots. Built to Lloyd’s Registry standards, Black Pearl has been registered in the Cayman Islands.

Further details are few and far between, with Oceanco remaining tight-lipped about this spectacular sailing yacht project, however, the raised pilothouse and extensive superyacht sundeck can be seen in great detail in this unofficial drone video.

Other projects currently under development at the Dutch yard include the 109 metre Oceanco Y718, which is another Nuvolari Lenard design and is due to hit the water next year.
