Update: Body Discovered Sunday

The body discovered in the water around 3PM on Sunday, 13 December, near Tiki Beach, has been identified as Westmore Walker, age 28, a resident of West Bay. Snorkelers discovered the body on Sunday, and then alerted Red Sail sports, which dispatched jet skis to the area and called the 9-1-1 Communications Centre. Police and emergency services responded to the scene about 4PM, and police rescue divers with the Joint Marine Unit retrieved the body.

Mr. Walker’s family was informed that evening, and it was determined that he had last been seen on Saturday morning.

 

UPDATE: CITN/Cayman27 reported on Monday (14) the deceased was Westmore Walker who worked in the delivery department at Cayman Islands Brewery. His body was found floating in the water in the Tiki Beach area,

“The Cayman Islands Brewery was put in complete shock upon hearing of the passing of one of our employees Westmore Walker. ‘West’ as we fondly called him worked in our Delivery Department and was an important part of the team. His enthusiastic and friendly nature made him an ideal employee and one that was an asset to the company.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time and even more so being the Christmas Season. We are truly heartbroken to hear of the news and the Management of the Brewery will be doing everything we can to lift the spirits of its staff at this sad time.”

GRAND CAYMAN – At approximately 4pm today, police and other emergency services was alerted to the discovery of a body in the ocean off West Bay Road. The body has since been recovered by the Marine Unit and is being transported to land. A police investigation has commenced and further information will be furnished at a later time as the investigation progresses. The body is confirmed as male.
