CONCACAF Disciplinary Committee fines Club CS Herediano and Club America for Champions League infractions, suspends Club America Player

CONCACAF-769x3852MIAMI, FL (Monday, March 30, 2015) – The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today that its Disciplinary Committee has levied fines on 2014/15 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League semifinalists CS Herediano and Club America, and suspended and fined Club America player Paolo Goltz, for a number of separate actions and incidents which took place during and after those clubs’ March 17 semifinal match in Heredia, Costa Rica.

The sanctions administered to CS Herediano include a fine for endangering player and fan safety by prematurely shutting off stadium lights. An additional penalty was assessed on the Costa Rican club – the home team for the match — for the club’s failure to provide adequate security and its accountability for poor supporter conduct surrounding an incident in which projectiles caused substantial damage to the Club America team bus as it returned from the stadium post-match.

Where Club America is concerned, player Paolo Goltz was suspended six matches, applicable to any future participation in the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League by the player, and fined an undisclosed amount, for kicking Herediano’s Cristhian Lagos while the rival player lay on the pitch. The suspension does not apply to FIFA events and would not carry over to the 2015 FIFA Club World Cup, should Club America qualify.

Club America was also fined for players’ misconduct in damaging installations at the Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero after the conclusion of the match. An additional fine was assessed to the Mexican club for a post-match breach of the tournament’s Media Regulations.

The 2014/15 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League resumes on Tuesday, April 7, with the second match of the home-and-away semifinal between Impact de Montreal and LD Alajuelense, at the Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The following evening, CS Herediano visits Club America at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, to complete that semifinal series.
