The final leg of the Caribbean Equestrian Association’s Junior Show Jumping Competition (JSJC) took place in Jamaica recently. Team Cayman consisted of Ashley van den Bol and Basil Humphries as the 16 and under and 14 and under riders.

The competition consisted of four challenging courses ridden over the two days on four different horses. Saturday’s two rounds were exciting and Cayman ended the day with 8 jumping faults for Ashley and two clear rounds for Basil. Sunday’s courses were particularly difficult, but the Cayman riders rode well and had two clear rounds and 4 jumping faults each.

Jamaica came through the weekend as the strongest team and secured first place for this final leg of the competition. Cayman came a strong second and Basil also secured the 14 and under Championship title as the rider with the least jumping faults. Coach, Mary Alberger, was very pleased with the performance of her team. “The children rode hard courses well, showing good control at all times. I am very pleased with the outcome.”

Overall for the JSJC series, Barbados gained first place with some very solid performances throughout the past year.
