Summer of Art at the National Gallery of the Cayman Islands

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 1.59.20 PMThe National Gallery of the Cayman Islands is thrilled to be hosting a Summer of Art, free programming that allows kids to utilise their creativity by participating in a range of imaginative activities. The Summer of Art at NGCI will include a variety of activities, from Cine Club for kids to Summer Camp Drop-ins sponsored by Scotiabank as well as a special guest artist who will be visiting students in Cayman Brac. National Gallery Education Coordinator, Kerwin Ebanks explains, “It is great that kids get an opportunity to do something constructive during the summer months. The program is free and open to students from all backgrounds, so it’s also a great way for students from different schools to work together creatively. With the upper and lower exhibition halls being open as usual as well as free coffee and tea for Gallery members, there is something for everyone to experience and enjoy.”

Summer Camp Drop-Ins

Each Summer Camp Drop-in session is different and gives kids multiple opportunities to take part in a range of art-related activities including stenciling, creative group activities, painting, drawing and more! Drop-in sessions will take place in the National Gallery Education Centre every Thursday Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 1.59.30 PMafternoon from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, beginning on 2 July 2015 and ending on 20 August 2015. Thanks to the generous support of Scotiabank, admission is free, however space is limited to 20 students and will be made available on a first-come basis. Summer Cine Club for Kids

Summer Cine Club for Kids is back with an all new selection of neat movies to enjoy! This summer Cine Club will be focusing on the theme of social equality and overcoming personal fears. Cine Club Curator and NGCI Deutsche Bank Intern, Lyle Anderton explains, “these films are heart-warming, hilarious and adventurous; an all-around fun collection for the kids to watch and learn together.” Screenings will be every Tuesday afternoon starting at 2:00 PM and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Ensuring that authentic cinema experience, popcorn, cookies and juice will be on sale at each showing.

Summer of Art Camp in Cayman Brac

The annual Cayman Brac Summer Art Camp will be held 1 August 2015. The exciting full day summer camp will feature guest artist Robin McLaurin, a fine art photographer and educator with years of experience under her belt. The day will host a wide variety of art activities and discussions and close with an art show of the work completed during the Summer Art Camp. Visiting the National Gallery Exhibition Halls This Summer

The National Gallery will be showcasing a new exhibition this summer titled All Access, starting Monday, 13 July 2015. This exhibition will put the entire NGCI Permanent Collection on display in both the upper and lower exhibition halls, bringing many hidden gems of artwork out of storage and giving visitors the rare chance to view work not usually on display. This exhibition will also give visitors the opportunity to speak with NGCI curators and learn about the history of the collection and its future plans. Admission to the National Gallery exhibition halls as always is free and the Gallery offers a variety of information and materials, including worksheets and activities for children and families which can all be found at reception, in order to help make the most out of your experience.

In conjunction with this exhibition, the National Gallery will also be throwing a Family Fun Day on Saturday, 18 July 2015. This free, fun-filled day will include scavenger hunt-like activities in both the upper and lower exhibition halls as well as outdoors in the Deutsche Bank Sculpture Garden for the whole family to take part in and enjoy. There will also be food and beverages made available for guests.

Summer Art Parties at the National Gallery

The National Gallery offers Art Parties for private groups of all ages. Art Parties take place in the Susan A. Olde Education Centre and include refreshments and interactive art activities. All Art Parties can be booked through the NGCI Events Department. Bookings help support the National Gallery’s education department and outreach programmes.
