Severe weather warning for Cayman Islands

Although Tropical Storm Erika has dissipated the Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS) has issued a Severe Weather Bulletin:

“Satellite images show extensive area of deep convection associated with Tropical Storm Erika east of Jamaica. Radar images indicate that some of the showers are heavy in nature and accompanied by some thunder. These showers are travelling toward the west and are expected to move over the Cayman area today through tomorrow.”

Forecaster Gilbert Miller said:

“Rainfall models are predicting an increase of 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall over the next 24 to 36 hours.”

This may lead to flooding of low lying areas. Residents in these areas are urged to take necessary precautions to prevent water intrusion into properties.

Boat operators are urged to use caution when operating over open waters, as gusty winds and rough seas typically accompany periods of heavy rainfall.
