New Elections Manual Available

In advance of the May 2013 general elections, political hopefuls will have the benefit of new elections manuals, which were recently completed by the Elections Office. The first “Candidate’s Kit” was presented today (Thursday, 18 October) to His Excellency the Governor, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE.

For the benefit of candidates and their agents the comprehensive binder outlines the complete process of running for office, beginning with the opening of nominations on March 27, 2013.

The user-friendly information binder includes a handbook; the Election Law, Anti-Corruption Law and Register of Interest Law; all relevant forms; as well as an instructional DVD. It is available from the office in the Smith Road Professional Centre at a cost of $125.

Attending today’s presentation were Election Supervisor Kearney Gomez, Deputy Supervisors Orrett Connor and Colford Scott, as well as Elections Training Officer Rupert McCoy. On Cayman Brac, the manual may be obtained from Deputy Supervisor of Elections Ernie Scott.

“Candidates are already enquiring and coming in for the kit, and this expanded format should serve them well,” said Mr. Gomez. He noted that in previous years a much simpler manual was provided.

Governor Taylor thanked the elections officials and their staff for their work. He said that he was confident that the kit was going to be really helpful for candidates in the forthcoming election.

Candidates should visit the Elections Office, or call 949 8047, for more information, or to obtain a copy of the new binder.
