9678292035_518e2274d2The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service welcomes an International Maritime Training Team from the Royal Navy (RN IMTT) who will be delivering a series of training courses to enhance navigation and small craft operating skills over the next month.

For 4 weeks, 10 police officers from RCIPS, and up to 40 officers from other Overseas Territories, will develop and improve their knowledge and application of navigation and advanced small craft handling, learning an array of tactics, techniques and procedures that will enhance their operational effectiveness in maritime security patrols. The project has been coordinated between the RCIPS and UK’s Defence Section in Kingston, Jamaica and has been jointly funded by the UK’s Conflict, Security & Stability Fund and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Overseas Territory Policing Fund.

The RN IMTT provides security training and education to International Maritime Forces to provide proficient and highly motivated international maritime personnel to contribute to the global maritime security.

IMTT Staff will also provide education and support to improve engineering and maintenance procedures that shall boost availability of marine resources to conduct operational patrols of the islands.

The IMTT provides a link between individual training establishments and overseas customer countries, primarily through the UK Defence liaison system and consists of five highly operationally experienced personnel of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines (combined 137 years service) and have conducted training globally including in, the Caribbean, West Africa and the Far East.

Her Excellency the Governor said “I welcome this training programme which, in addition to the year round presence of a Royal Navy vessel in the Caribbean, is evidence of the UK’s commitment to the security of the Cayman Islands.”
