DCFS Senior’s Easter Luncheon

Hundreds of senior citizens travelled from every district to attend the 10th annual pre-Easter celebration at the Family Life Centre, on Monday, 18 March, 2013.

Organised by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) Community Development Unit, the special occasion celebrated Easter’s true meaning – the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Happiness, praise and worship filled the room as Reverend Rohan Forrester led the communion service with scripture readings and prayers, under the theme: Power of Forgiveness. This theme was chosen as a way to encourage seniors to reflect on how they deal with forgiveness which in turn, will inspire them to have a loving heart towards

their families, neighbours and respective communities. The event was an opportunity for family and friends to enjoy the company of loved ones during this Easter season.

Expressing his gratitude to and appreciation of seniors in a brief address, Hon. Dwayne Seymour, Minister for Community Affairs, Gender and Housing said, “It is a privilege to be able to honour our elderly in this way. As a country, we owe great debt to each of you for your hard work, dedication and commitment towards building a better and stronger future for us all.”
