Cricket report: Jamaica win big

The Challenge Trophy, Cayman Islands favorite off season tournament began yesterday in glorious sunshine. It was a fitting start to T/20 action. Cayman Islands and Bahamas participants of the ICC Americas Level 1 Coaching Course held at the John Gray High School and the region’s Development Officer Wendell Coppin were present at the Smith Road Oval to enjoy the first match of the tournament.

Batting first Cayman made a respectable 130 for 4 wickets with Ronald Ebanks 50n.o, Omar Willis 36 and Ricardo Roach 21n.o. Wayne Cato was the most outstanding bowler for Jamaica taking 2 wickets for 18 runs.

Cayman bowlers began well and restricted Jamaica in the first 10 overs. The stage was set for Ladel Farquharson the most explosive batsman in Cayman Islands. With the Jamaican supporters chanting for Ladel, he came in and did not disappoint them. He stroked 4 sixes and 2 fours in making 51n.o and with Ainsley Hall 36n.o took Jamaica to victory by 7 wickets.
