CIAA seeking to prequalify contractors for phase 2

ORIA Exterior Concept DesignGrand Cayman, Cayman Islands (14 October, 2015) The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA) is currently seeking to prequalify General Contractors for the Phase 2 Construction Works of the Owen Roberts International Airport Terminal Renovation and Expansion Project. This contract will be for the remainder of the terminal building including approximately 100,000 sq. ft. of new extensions to the east, west and north as well as renovation of the existing terminal building and additional parking in the area of the current fuel farm. It is expected that construction of the Phase 2 work will commence in January 2016 and be completed in the first half of 2018.

Albert Anderson, CIAA CEO commented that , “One of the biggest challenges identified is ensuring that the terminal building will remain fully operational throughout the construction period, therefore the safety and security of staff, users and the travelling public remains paramount”.

In order to facilitate the operational requirements of the airport, the works will be carried out in a number of sub-phases which is the reason that the project has a two and a half year timeline.

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority hopes to attract applications to prequalify from established General Contractors with experience on high value, multi-phase projects including those carried out in existing facilities and with strict safety and security requirements.
