Update at 3:30 pm April 14th 2015

Power has been restored to all customers affected by today’s power outage. A cross section of the island was without power from around 10: 50 this morning when a fault was recorded in our generation facilities.

As a result of this fault, the system safely shut down as it is designed to do, resulting in a loss of power. CUC’s engineers have worked throughout the day to restore the system and bring the power back up in a safe manner.

All customers were restored at 3:24 pm

UPDATE From CUC

60% of the power has been restored to customers in areas from West Bay to East End and including George Town.

At 10: 50 this morning, a fault was recorded in our generation facilities. As a result of this fault, the system safely shut down as it is designed to do, resulting in a loss of power. Since then, CUC’s engineers have been working to restore the system and bring the power back up.

We now anticipate that power to all customers should be restored by 3:00 pm.

Earlier:

Caribbean Utilities Company (CUC) Grand Cayman’s power provider announced today (Tue 14) that a large portion of Grand Cayman lost power around 10:40 a.m.  We were unofficially informed CUC lost 90% of their power.

The power in the George Town District returned around 2pm. No reason has been given to date for the power failure.

Education officials confirm all public schools except Clifton Hunter and Prospect Primary on Grand Cayman are closed due to the power outage. All buses are enroute to collect students from the schools. Parents are asked to collect students who do not ride the bus.

Triple C School is also closed. Parents are asked to collect their children as soon as possible.
