Season

The Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) successfully hosted a Referee Beginners Course July 12 – 19, 2015 at the George Town Primary School.

Ten new referees completed the five day course where they were exposed to the intricacies of the laws of the game, interpreting challenges, understanding the modern game and the concept of FIFA 11 plus drills for injury prevention. Following their success in the theoretical aspect of the course, the new referees have already begun their training to develop their fitness levels and expose them to the practical elements signaling, decision making and practical game management.

Acting President of the Cayman Islands Football Association Mr. Bruce Blake has pledged his full support to referee training and development, to ensure officiating standards are improved for the new season. He hopes the new referees will take their training seriously and work hard to service the games with quality performance.

Chairman of the CIFA Referees Committee Livingston Bailey, said he was impressed with the enthusiasm and positive attitudes exhibited by the new referees during their training sessions. Mr. Bailey said he is confident that these new referees, once they remain focused, will grasped the concept of modern officiating standards and excel in their performance.

Mr. Bailey stated that the new season will also be enhanced with additional training for all referees, as the FIFA Referee Department under the auspices of the FIFA Referee Assistance Program, as approved advance technical and fitness training for Cayman Islands referees in the November 2015, similar to what is done in other FIFA Member Associations.

About CIFA – The Cayman Islands Football Association is the governing body of football in the Cayman Islands, overseeing all National Team programs, youth development leagues, Women’s League and the Cayman Islands Men’s Premier League.
