Cayman Islands: Butterfield scholarship for employees’ children

(Grand Cayman – 20, July 2017) This year, Butterfield Group introduced three scholarships to be awarded to children of employees across three regions: Atlantic, Caribbean and Europe. Caymanian student Austyn Burkholder, daughter of Caroline Lackey of Butterfield Trust Cayman Limited, was selected as the 2017 Caribbean scholarship recipient.

Ms. Burkholder is currently studying Medicine (MBBS) at the University of York, having graduated in 2015 from St. Ignatius Catholic School with 3 A’s and a B in her A-Levels. She is completing her final three years of Medical School and aims to begin her training immediately after in order to become a surgeon.

“Austyn was an excellent candidate for this scholarship” commented Jacqueline Terry, Senior Manager, Human Resources. “Her ambition and clear dedication to her field of study helped her to shine in her interview, and we are pleased to be able to assist her on her path to becoming a surgeon.”

“The Butterfield Group is dedicated to giving back to the communities in which it serves, and with these scholarships available for children of our valued employees; we are able to further support the pursuit of higher education among the youth in our community. Austyn’s qualification in Medicine will be of great benefit to the Cayman Islands and we applaud her on her commitment to helping people” said Butterfield’s Managing Director Michael McWatt.

The 2017 Annual Butterfield Undergraduate Scholarship, which is in its 25th year, was recently awarded to Arin Broderick, who is also pursuing medicine. For more information about all of the scholarships that Butterfield offers, visit www.ky.butterfieldgroup.com
