Cayman Hospice Care announce Caribbean Pallative Care Conference

HOSconf061The Cayman Hospice Care has had the privilege of hosting three Palliative Care Conferences in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Our goal with these International conferences is to broaden the Palliative and End-of-Life education and encourage not only our own staff but also our interdisciplinary colleagues, who share the same challenges and responsibilities as we do in hospice and palliative care.

Now they want you to Save the Date – Caribbean Pallative Care Conference is Thursday 2nd October, 2014.

They also have two upcoming events:

April 9, 2014

Island Heritage Charity Drive

May 2, 2014

CHC Bash 2014 at Ristorante Pappagallo

DSC3843-croppedThe Cayman Hospice Vision clearly states they are committed to providing extraordinary end of life care to any person living in the Cayman Islands.

The “best we can do” is unacceptable to them. They say their patients deserve the best care possible and nothing less. This means their nurses and caregivers stay up to date with the latest pain control and symptom relief techniques and medications.

While educational material is available on the internet or in literature, the invaluable hands-on experience and training in other hospices around the world is also required.

They applaud the Cayman community who haves been very supportive of their continued education initiative.

Full Circle Grief Recovery (From Hospice website)

Our commitment as a group is to offer a facilitated safe haven where experiences can be shared. A place where one can begin to move beyond the pain.

In the days, weeks, months and years that follow a loss, sharing can help replace some sorrow and inner isolation with healing and hope.

Full Circle meets every Wednesday at 6 pm at Cayman HospiceCare in the Conch Shell House, 492 North Sound Road.

It is a free service and everyone who has experienced loss and would like to begin or continue healing is welcome.

A Hospice Poem (From Hospice website)

When my life is finally measured in

Months, weeks, days, hours

I want to live free of pain

Free of indignity, free of loneliness.

Give me your hand.

Give me your understanding.

Give me your love.

Then let me go peacefully

And help my family to understand.

– Written by a patient from a children’s hospice in Russia that was built after the Chernobyl disaster.
