Search for missing fishing boat

The RCIPS Marine and Air Operations Units, along with the US Coast Guard, have launched a search and rescue operation for the fishing vessel Renegade.

The operation was launched after an automated GPS distress call was received from the boat earlier this morning.

The boat, which is described as a 30-foot canoe type converted with a diesel engine., has two men on board. The distress call was received by the wife of one of those men earlier this morning and she thereafter contacted the police around 7am.

It’s the same boat that was rescued in August last year.

The co-ordinates of the boat are believed to be around 72 miles NE of Grand Cayman. RCIPS resources are currently en-route to that location.

Messages have been sent to all boats in the area to report any sightings of the vessel.

Updates will be provided later.
