Poilce have questioned the ex-boyfriend of Kerran Natalee Baker in connection with her Saturday disappearance, as divers scour the area between Pedro Castle and East End.

Toney-Ann Anthony, 18, Ms Baker’s sister, told iNews that her sister’s Cayman-based boyfriend was “obsessive, manipulative and apparently a liar,” repeatedly pestering the family, seeking to interfere in her engagement and threatening to hurt himself if he could not “have her”.

After extensive questioning, she said, he told her he had left the police station “at 5am on Monday morning”, While officers declined to confirm the interrogation, Chief Inspector Angelique Howell said “every person brought to our attention, any person that had any contact with her [Ms Baker}, we have spoken to.”

Ms Anthony described several conversations, as recently as Wednesday.

“I spoke with him three times [Wednesday], “ Ms Anthony said. “He said he saw her [last week on] Thursday and Saturday. He saw her at 12:30pm when she was leaving work. The last time he spoke with her was at 7:30pm, after she left the supermarket, which is strange.

“Based on the conversations, he was manipulative and obsessive. He cut keys to her house and car,” she said.

“One time she and her friends were at her house and he came up and opened the door and went in,” Ms Anthony said.

“He tried to break up her engagement. I never met him but I know him. He has a son with my aunts’ friend. My parents have met him.”

Ms Baker was last seen publicly at 7pm on Saturday as she entered Fosters Food Fair near the airport. Groceries were subsequently found on her kitchen counter during a Sunday police search of her premises.

“Saturday was the last time our mom spoke to her. She had sent money for me a few days before and was saying the money should be here [Jamaica],” Ms Anthony said.

“We last talked on Thursday via email and text,” she said of her sister.

After he was questioned, the former boyfriend was released by police without charge.

Chief Inspector John Jones said police “had no one in custody, have not arrested anyone”, and conceded  “we are not any closer. No one has come forward with any assistance after the Foster’s at 7pm on Saturday night.”

Meanwhile, Ms Baker’s parents, Sarah Anthony and Wilmot Anthony, pleaded for any information.

Verging on tears, Mrs Anthony said “I am begging the people of the Cayman Islands, please, if you see, hear or know anything”, to come forward.

“This is my first child and I am here to know what went wrong, to know where she is. I am her mother. She is my child, Please someone tell me something. I need her,” she said.

Mr Anthony, a Cayman Islands’ tour-bus driver and employee at Hurley’s between 1999 and March this year, echoed the remarks.

“Everyone knows I’m her daddy,” he said, “and 95% of the people here know me. Put yourself in our position. If you know or see anything call me. If you are scared to talk to the police, talk to me.

“It is now five days going on six, and we can’t eat, we can’t sleep. I am hoping for the best, but bracing for the worst,” he said, offering his telephone number.

Detective Inspector Marlon Bodden said police had expanded their search as marine units and divers scoured the area between Pedro Castle, where a bloodstain on the rocky shoreline and Ms Baker’s car and keys were found, and East End.

While saying evidence was still under forensic examination, he virtually conceded that police had accepted the waterfront bloodstain belonged to Ms Baker.

“We are back in the water,” he said, “and looking at the drift pattern, the ebb and flow of the tides, so there is a lot of work going on. We cannot underestimate that activity with the depth of the currents, which present a significant risk to officers. We are leaving no stone unturned.”
