What a Biden administration will mean for IP

| The four years of the Trump presidency have not been quiet in terms of IP and policy, domestically or on the international stage. Reforms at the Iancu-led USPTO, including to the PTAB, as well as significant changes in the approach to FRAND/SEP issues at the DoJ, have been welcomed by many patent owners; while IP appropriation and theft have been center stage in the worsening U.S.-China trade relationship. Although not all the votes have been counted – and some doubts remain over the final outcome – it seems as if the U.S. may now be transitioning to a new administration led by Joe Biden. If that comes to pass, could IP policy take a different turn? This will be a key subject for discussion at IAM’s IP 2020, being held online from November 17 to 19. Join panels of high-level decision makers and policy experts as they delve deeper into what the IP priorities of a new Biden administration, or a second-term Trump presidency, will be – and how these will affect patent owners and their advisers.
