UPDATE: Cayman – Police Confirm Identity of Deceased in Shamrock Road Fatal Collision

Police can now confirm the identity of the deceased in the fatal collision which occurred on Monday morning, 28 July, on Shamrock Road. He is 31-year-old Durvin Norales Mejia, a Honduran national residing in Cayman.

The RCIPS once again expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The other occupants of the vehicle remain in hospital.

Police Investigate Fatal Single-Vehicle Collision on Shamrock Road, 28 July

Shortly after 1:30AM today, 28 July, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched officers to a report of a single-vehicle collision on Shamrock Road in the vicinity of Cool Springs Close, involving a Honda Fit. It was reported that the vehicle was travelling along Shamrock Road when it left the roadway and collided with a tree. Four occupants of the vehicle received injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment. One passenger remains in hospital in critical condition, with what appear to be serious life-threatening injuries, the other two are being treated for what appear to be minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, was pronounced deceased by the attending physician. The RCIPS expresses condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

The roadway along Shamrock Road was temporarily closed for investigative purposes, but has since been reopened.

The collision is being investigated by the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit, and anyone with information is being asked to call 649-6254 during business hours or the Bodden Town Police Station at 947-2220.
