fDi MARKETS DATA TRENDS

The number of FDI megaprojects (those with $1bn+ announced capital investment) have been on the rise over the last ten years. The chart shows that, despite a slight decline in 2024, the number of megaprojects in the last three full years is far above the previous trend. Provisional data for Q1 2025 indicate that we should see an increase in the number of projects for the full year. This increase is also driving up the average size of FDI projects. The jump in the average size of projects in Q1 2025 (to $121m) is driven by investment announcements into the US. Damac Data Centres and TSMC have announced over $100bn worth of investments in data centres and chip plants respectively across the US. At 35%, the US has seen its largest share of global megaprojects in Q1 2025.
