Roy’s Christmas Village Lights Up Cayman Brac

District Commissioner for the Sister Islands, Mark Tibbetts, is helping carry on a tradition that has lit up Cayman Brac Christmases since 1994. Each year, his family builds an elaborate holiday display across the street from their businesses, El Superstore and Eats and Treats Café, transforming the area into a seasonal showpiece.

Tibbetts explains that the tradition began with his late father, Roy, who first set up the decorations in the mid‑1990s. What started as a family project has grown into an island‑wide attraction that residents now eagerly anticipate every festive season.

In recent years, the family formally named the site “Roy’s Christmas Village” in honour of the man who started it all. Tibbetts says the name is a lasting tribute to his father’s vision and generosity toward the Cayman Brac community.

Evenings at Roy’s Christmas Village have become a regular part of the holiday routine for many families. Visitors stroll through the lights, take photos and use the space as a chance to socialise and spend time together as Christmas approaches.

Tibbetts says seeing the community enjoy the display is what means the most to his family. He describes the village as their way of giving back to the small, close‑knit island they “love so dearly.”
