The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Commission is inviting residents and stakeholders from the Sauce community and surrounding areas to attend an upcoming community meeting to learn more about environmental works being implemented under the BioSPACE Project in the Commonwealth of Dominica.

The meeting will be held at the Scott’s Head Marine Reserve (SSMR) Building in Soufrière, Commonwealth of Dominica, and will provide an opportunity for community members to hear directly from project partners about the initiative, its benefits, and how the planned works may affect the local area.

The OECS Commission is implementing the BioSPACE Project (Support Programme for ACP Small Island Developing States and Coastal Countries) with funding from the European Union and in collaboration with the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation. The project supports Caribbean Small Island Developing States in strengthening biodiversity management and enhancing resilience to climate change through improved management of coastal and terrestrial ecosystems.

In collaboration with the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, the project will support the construction of small instream wetlands and the installation of septic tanks in Sauce. These interventions are designed to improve wastewater management, reduce environmental contamination, and enhance ecosystem health while contributing to the long-term resilience of the community.

The community meeting scheduled for March 12, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. will also serve as the official launch of the works, marking the start of on-the-ground activities. Representatives from the OECS Commission, the Government of Dominica, and project partners will share details about the project objectives, implementation timeline, and expected environmental benefits.

Community members will also be introduced to key organisations involved in the project’s implementation, including Enviroplus Consulting Ltd., the works contractor; Alpha Engineering Ltd., the supervisory consultant; and the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation, the focal agency supporting the initiative.

The event will bring together representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment, the Department of Fisheries, Environmental Health officials, local government representatives, community stakeholders from Sauce, and members of the OECS Commission’s Environmental Sustainability Division.

Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion. The meeting will provide an opportunity for community members to ask questions, share their perspectives, and gain a better understanding of how the project aims to protect biodiversity, improve wastewater management, and strengthen climate resilience in Dominica.
