NMSU ROTC to host Open House event March 12

WHAT: The New Mexico State University Department of Military Science’s Army ROTC program will host an Open House event for the NMSU community to engage with program and show support for the two NMSU Bataan Memorial Death March teams taking part in the 26.2-mile tribute event. 

“We want to show the students, faculty and alumni that Army ROTC is an indelible part of the NMSU community and has been ever since our program’s foundation in 1902,” said Lieutenant Colonel Joshua Campbell, military science assistant professor. “We also want to give NMSU students who are interested in military service after college an opportunity to see what Army ROTC has to offer and how we can help them achieve their goals.”

WHO: NMSU Army ROTC and the New Mexico National Guard welcome NMSU students, faculty and alumni to explore the NMSU Army ROTC headquarters and speak with cadets in the program.

WHEN: 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Mar. 12

WHERE: Young Hall, 1300 South Horseshoe on New Mexico State University Main Campus

VISUALS: In partnership with the New Mexico National Guard, the NMSU Army ROTC Open House will include a display of U.S. Army vehicles, a physical fitness challenge and will have hamburgers and hot dogs for sale. Visitors are welcome to tour the common areas of NMSU’s Army ROTC headquarters and speak with cadets serving in the program. The end of the event will feature a highlight and celebration of the two NMSU teams participating in the Annual Bataan Memorial Death March on March 21 at White Sands Missile Range.

Background: Army ROTC cadets from NMSU planned and conducted the first Bataan Memorial Death March event in 1988, beginning the 26.2-mile trek from the steps of Young Hall. This is the first year the Army ROTC program has combined an open house event with a celebration for the Bataan Memorial Death March teams.
