  • Kia Tasman, Kia’s first pickup, introduced in Latin America in 2025, showcases its reliability, performance and ability to respond to challenges of every road

Kia has released a new docuseries, titled Kia Tasman Stories: The Adventure Begins. The series follows the journey of two adventurers driving a Kia Tasman pickup through four South American countries, where every kilometer becomes a challenge and every terrain a test.

The series highlights the Tasman’s power, versatility, technology, and all-terrain capability to master dramatic inclines and steep falls, climatic variations, and highly unpredictable routes. More than a geographic journey, the series is also an invitation to look inward, explore without limits, and find the inspiration to stay in motion and connect with what’s authentic.

How did the Kia Tasman Stories come together, and who was involved?

The journey was conceived to cross ColombiaPeruEcuador, and Chile, blending topographic challenges, climate contrasts, and the participation of individuals who bring unique perspectives to every stage. The trip is led by Martín Mesa, Colombian paragliding pilot and two-time national champion – an adventurer at heart – accompanied by his wife Alicia Londoño, model, content creator, traveler, and motorcycle enthusiast.

Along the route, other travel companions join in, people who share a passion for adventure and contribute their own viewpoints from each of the countries visited:

  • Diana Osorio, in Colombia – an entrepreneur and sports marketing specialist
  • Nicolás Galindo, in Peru – an actor and host with a strong narrative talent
  • Juan José Espinosa, in Ecuador – an athlete and entrepreneur who inspires discipline and perseverance
  • Chris Vorphal, in Chile – a beach volleyball national team athlete embodying strength and resilience

Together, they enrich every episode with their authenticity and energy.

How did the Kia Tasman Stories journey unfold?

The 22-day, 2,620km journey took the adventurers through four countries.

Colombia

The first stretch of the adventure begins in Colombia, through the humid trails and clay soils of the country’s Coffee Axis, where slopes at 2,600 meters above sea level test the Tasman’s torque control, traction, and thermal efficiency. This stage ends in Roldanillo, an iconic destination for paragliding.

Ecuador

The ascent toward Cotopaxi in Ecuador presents a different challenge, where altitude demands power delivery and control over changing surfaces. The route in this country concludes at the iconic Middle of the World monument, a symbol of crossing borders and personal achievement.

Peru

The stone trails and ancestral landscapes of Peru’s Sacred Valley introduce unique blend of history, culture, and adrenaline. The altitude and steep terrain highlight the importance of the Kia Tasman’s cutting-edge traction, stability, and driving modes to tackle each section safely.

Chile

Finally, the journey enters one of the most demanding landscapes on the planet: Chile’s Atacama Desert. Intense solar radiation, abrasive terrain, and broad temperature variations test the Tasman’s engineering, and it responds with efficiency, stability, and high‑level performance.

Which features made the Kia Tasman pickup so well-suited to Latin America’s roads?

The Kia Tasman’s design combines a robust exterior with a practical and refined interioroffering durable materials, a 30-inch panoramic display, intuitive controls, and ample rear space. Available in Base, X-LINE, and X-PRO versions, along with optional configurations and standard ADAS functions, it stands out for its customization options and best-in-segment cargo platform. Its off-road performance features include:

  • 800 mm wading capability (at speeds under 7 km/h)
  • 4×4 system with low-range gearbox and multiple terrain modes
  • advanced technologies including e-LD and X-TREK in the X-PRO version
  • superior comfort thanks to a robust chassis and well-tuned suspension

All of these features are demonstrated throughout the Kia Tasman Stories series, tested in real environments across Latin America.

How was the Kia Tasman Stories project born?

Fiorella Farje, Head of Marketing, Kia Central & South America, explained: Kia Tasman Stories was created with a clear purpose: to show, under the real conditions of our region, how the Kia Tasman accompanies and responds to the challenges of Latin American roads. We want to inspire more people to explore with confidence, demonstrating that every journey can become a meaningful experience. This docuseries celebrates the connection between the land, adventure, and the way the Kia Tasman empowers authentic and confident exploration.”

What were the challenges encountered along the way?

The route covered approximately 2,620 kilometers over 22 days, reaching altitudes up to 4,500 meters above sea level, and facing temperature variations from -2 °C to 30 °C. The journey crossed four countries – Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Chile – and encountered awide variety of ecosystems that tested the Tasman in real conditions, including:

  • Tropical rainforest with extreme humidity and clay-rich mud
  • Cloud forest and páramo with low visibility and saturated soils
  • Andean plateau and Puna with thin air and dry, cold mountains and glaciers
  • Volcanic terrain with active ash and pumice
  • The Atacama Desert, one of the driest places on Earth, with deep sand and salt flats
  • The Pacific coast with salty breezes and challenging cliff-top routes.
