Gran Canaria to host the 2026 Global Sustainable Islands Summit

Gran Canaria has recently been confirmed as the host of the Global Sustainable Islands Summit (GSIS) 2026 , a major international gathering that will bring together island leaders, climate experts, and innovators. The event will take place from April 20 to 22, 2026 , at ExpoMeloneras , with the support of the Gran Canaria Island Council and partners from Europe, the Caribbean, and other regions.
This edition will focus on geothermal innovation, climate finance, resilient infrastructure, and interregional collaboration among island territories. Confirmed speakers include:
- Antonio Morales, President of the Gran Canaria Island Council
- Gene Leon, Executive Director of the Development Bank for Resilient Prosperity
- Ambassador Liz Thompson, Government of Barbados
- Tim Hemmings, UK Government Special Envoy for SIDS
- And many other representatives from Spain, the Caribbean, the United Kingdom and Latin America
