GIMISTORY
Since 1998, the Cayman Islands International Storytelling Festival, better known as GIMISTORY, has been bringing together storytellers from Cayman, the Caribbean, North America and beyond to entertain old and young alike. The Festival is acclaimed by those who have attended storytelling festivals in North America and the UK as being among the best anywhere. The Festival takes place in parks, beaches, and even a private backyard, all of which evoke an atmosphere of the days of yore when storytelling was our only entertainment. Admission is FREE!
During the day, storytellers visit schools making special presentations to students. A unique aspect of the event is the free ‘fry fish’, ‘frittas’ and ‘swanky’ (Cayman style lemonade with limes or Seville oranges and brown sugar) that is served to the audience at the end of the show. In 2009, the ‘fry fish, frittas ‘n swanky’ tradition of GIMISTORY took a new twist and became a culinary competition. Each district now competes for the honours of Best Fry Fish, Best Swanky or Best Frittas. Best of Cayman sponsors the competition banner each year.
Audience capacity is usually standing room only, but you’re welcome to put your blanket or towel down wherever you can find a space!
Gimistory 2013 will take place November 30th to December 7th.
Admission is FREE!
