The island shared prosecution expertise this month at a forum in Grand Cayman of counsel from across the North American and Caribbean region, focusing on emerging crime trends in the islands as well as mutual legal assistance.

The Bermuda Department of Public Prosecutions sent prosecutors Matthew Frick, Taneka King and Audley Quallo, with Mr Frick delivering a presentation on organised crime, drugs and guns.

The seventh International Association of Prosecutors regional conference from November 9 to 12 was hosted by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Cayman Islands.

Cindy Clarke, Bermuda’s Director of Public Prosecutions, said attendance at such conferences was “essential for Bermuda to remain equipped to combat emerging crime trends and offer solutions in line with modern criminal justice developments”.

She added: “It ensures we are aligned with best practices and prepared to effectively address the complex criminal issues facing Bermuda and the region.”

Topics ranged from disclosure in the digital age to artificial intelligence in criminal justice and developments in legal training.

Bermuda’s Department of Public Prosecutions hopes to hold the eighth such conference in March 2027.
