The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) urges countries of the Americas to strengthen their response to HIV, warning that around one-third of people living with HIV are diagnosed too late, when their immune system is already severely weakened and their lives are at risk.

Violence against women is pervasive in the Americas, new estimates show
Violence against women and girls continues to be a serious and persistent problem in the Region of the Americas, according to new estimates presented by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UN partners. The data, released to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls, reveal that one in three women aged 15 and older in the Region has experienced physical or sexual violence at some point in her life.

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that avian influenza A(H5N1) continues to circulate in the Americas, with new outbreaks detected in birds, mammals, and sporadic human infections linked to exposure to the virus. Clade 2.3.4.4b—the region’s predominant strain since 2021—continues to drive the activity recorded in recent years.

PAHO calls for regional action as the Americas lose measles elimination status
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) announced that the Region of the Americas has lost its verification as free from endemic measles transmission. The decision follows the conclusion of the PAHO Measles, Rubella, and Congenital Rubella Syndrome Elimination Regional Monitoring and Re-Verification Commission, which met to review the epidemiological situation across the region.
